Rainbow Wahine fall short in Long Beach

Down 23 points in the third quarter, the University of Hawaii women’s basketball team rallied before falling short against Long Beach State 62-55 on Thursday in Long Beach, Calif.

The Rainbow Wahine (8-10, 2-3 Big West Conference) were just 4 of 17 (24 percent) from the field in the first half in falling behind 35-15. They trailed 52-29 with just over a minute left in the third quarter before a jumper by Lauren Rewers and a 3-pointer by Julissa Tago closed the deficit to 52-34 going into the fourth.

Hawaii then scored the first 12 points of the final period to trim the Beach’s lead to six points with 3:25 remaining, but would get no closer.

Tago led UH with 22 points. Savannah Reier added 15.

Jasmine Hardy had 18 points and Shanaijah Davison chipped in 17 to lead the 49ers (8-10, 3-2).

The Rainbow Wahine next play at UC Riverside on Saturday.
