Bears, Spartans fall in state tournament fifth-place games

The Baldwin High School and Seabury Hall boys basketball teams both fell in the fifth place games in their respective divisions of the Snapple/HHSAA State Championships on Friday at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.

The Maui Interscholastic League champion Bears lost to Moanalua 64-52 in a Division I fifth-place game.

Holden Ioanis led Baldwin with 21 points, shooting 10 for 11 from the free-throw line, and Isaiah Richards added nine points while Quintan Akaka had 12 rebounds.

Moanalua (15-3) jumped out to a 17-6 lead in the first quarter before opening up a 36-17 halftime lead.

The Bears conclude the season at 13-4.

In a Division II fifth-place game, Seabury lost to Kauai 52-49.

Masyn Johnson led the MIL champion Spartans (13-2) with a game-high 20 points and seven rebounds against the Red Raiders (13-2). Kai Preseault score eight and added eight rebounds, and Caden Granum had eight points and five steals.

Seabury trailed 20-19 at halftime before taking a 37-36 lead into the fourth quarter. Despite turning the ball over eight times in the final frame, Kauai outscored the Spartans 16-12 to take the game.
