Carter III carries Long Beach State past Hawaii 64-60
LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Michael Carter III had 15 points as Long Beach State edged past the University of Hawaii men’s basketball team 64-60 on Saturday.
Joshua Morgan had 10 points for Long Beach State (10-18, 5-7 Big West Conference). Jordan Roberts added seven rebounds.
Eddie Stansberry had 19 points to lead the Rainbow Warriors (15-11, 6-6). Justin Webster added 15 points and Zigmars Raimo had nine rebounds.
Samuta Avea, whose 11 points per game heading into the matchup ranked second on the Rainbow Warriors, was held scoreless. He shot 0 of 4 from 3-point range.
The Beach swept the season series against UH.
Hawaii next hosts Cal State Fullerton on Thursday.
Also on Saturday, the Hawaii women’s basketball team saw its six-game winning streak come to an end with a 65-48 loss to Big West-leading UC Davis at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.
The Rainbow Wahine fell to 14-11 overall, 8-4 in the Big West. They next play at UC Irvine on Thursday.
UC Davis improved to 15-11, 10-3.
