Maui schools, athletes named HMSA Kaimana Awards recipients
The Maui News Seabury Hall’s Ameera Waterford and Kihei Charter’s William Kepler were the Maui Interscholastic League’s recipients of the HMSA Kaimana Awards & Scholarship Program, the nonprofit health insurer announced Friday.
The program recognizes Hawaii high seniors and schools who excel in academics, athletics, community service, healthy activities and sportsmanship. HMSA sponsors the program in partnership with the Hawaii High School Athletic Association.
Waterford and Kepler are among 15 student-athletes from around the state who were awarded with scholarships worth $5,000 each.
Among the schools recognized were the MIL’s Maui Prep (small school) and Kamehameha Maui (large school). The highest-scoring schools in each division from each league from across the state received a $1,500 award.
