UH rallies, falls to UC Santa Barbara 81-74 in OT

JaQuori McLaughlin scored 19 points and Devearl Ramsey scored 17 as UC Santa Barbara beat the University of Hawaii men’s basketball team 81-74 in overtime on Saturday night at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.
Amadou Sow added 16 points for the Gauchos (14-3, 8-2 Big West Conference), who won their 10th straight game, and Miles Norris chipped in 11.
Hawaii rallied from a 46-31 deficit with 15:20 left in regulation and went ahead 62-60 on Casdon Jardine’s layup with 61 seconds left. Norris threw down a dunk to tie it with 36 seconds to go and Sow blocked Junior Madut’s 3-point attempt with seconds remaining.
McLaughlin hit a 3 at the start of overtime, Norris sank a pair of foul shots and UC Santa Barbara led the rest of the way.
Jardine scored 25 points for the Rainbow Warriors (7-7, 5-7). James Jean-Marie added 17 and Biwali Bales 10.
Earlier Saturday, the UH women’s team lost to UCSB 72-50 for a series split in Santa Barbara, Calif.
Daejah Phillips led the Rainbow Wahine (5-6, 4-5) with 16 points off the bench.
Doris Jones scored 23 points to lead the Gauchos (3-12, 3-8). Alyssa Marin added 12 points.
The Rainbow Wahine have next weekend off, while the UH men take on Cal State Northridge on the road Friday and Saturday.
