First photo: Anthony Ware receives his Maui Marathon finisher medal Sunday morning in Kaanapali after completing the virtual 26.2-mile run on Saturday. The Maui Marathon — which also offered a half marathon, 5- and 10-kilometer races, and a four-member marathon relay — usually draws thousands of participants and spectators, but due to COVID-19, officials kept the running event virtual this year. Participants had to complete their runs or walks in the month of April and upload their time and photos to the Maui Marathon website. Ware told The Maui News he was happy with his result and that he would “definitely do it again next year.”

Second photo: Sara and Austin Zacher smile for a photo after picking up their Maui Marathon gear Saturday. They completed the virtual half marathon. About 768 people signed up to run or walk this year. The event collected just over a $1,000 in donations for Imua Family Services, race director Jon Emerson said on Sunday.
