Cowell named to All-America second team
The Maui News
University of Hawaii outside hitter Colton Cowell was named to the NVA/AVCA All-America second team Monday, one of five Rainbow Warriors to earn All-America honors.
Cowell, a senior out of King Kekaulike High School, was named to the second team for the second consecutive year. Last month he was named to the all-Big West Conference first team for the second straight year.
Three UH players were selected to the All-America first team — opposite Rado Parapunov, libero Gage Worsley and middle blocker Patrick Gasman. Setter Jakob Thelle was honorable mention.
Parapunov, the Big West Player of the Year, and Worsley became the program’s third and fourth players to earn first-team honors, joining Costas Theocharidis (2000-03) and Stijn van Tilburg (2017-19).
It was the fourth All-America recognition overall for both Parapunov and Gasman.
The Rainbow Warriors are the top seed for this week’s NCAA tournament in Columbus, Ohio. They will face either UC Santa Barbara or Pepperdine in the semifinals on Thursday at 11 a.m. Hawaii time. The match will be streammed live on NCAA.com.
