Maui’s Na Kane Organization took the championship title in the JV division at the Rocky Mountain 7 on 7 Throwdown last Friday, winning all seven of their games in the football tournament in West Jordan, Utah.

The team — which was comprised mostly of rising ninth through 11th graders from across the Valley Isle — defeated Utah’s Bingham High School in the championship, 14-10.

Members of the team include Baldwin’s Keoni Rodrigues, Toa Mataafa Grove, Duke Cosner and Kahekili Eleneke; Maui High’s Tavita Tufaga, Joseph Cariaga, Robert Young, Kaimana Tufaga and Nathaniel Russell; St. Anthony’s Gavin Acosta; Lahainaluna’s Lauloa Gerard; and Ikaika Kuaana-Lacno of Mililani.

Team coaches were David Tufaga, Randall Young and Jonah Aruda.

In addition to the tournament, the team also visited three colleges in Utah — Weber State, University of Utah and Snow College — and attended a one-day camp run by Level Up Elites.
