Runners return to Front Street

The Maui News / MATTHEW THAYER photos

FIRST ABOVE: Runners in the boys 10-12 division of the mile break from the starting line during the 20th annual Tommy Bahama Front Street Mile and 5K/10K on Saturday morning in Lahaina. The event returned this year after being canceled last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Health and safety protocols in place included a smaller field (fewer than 300 entries compared to about 900 in past years) and runners starting off in waves. SECOND PHOTO: Kalia Kaneta, 14, (right) and Lynn Pustelnik, 15, battle down the stretch of the girls 14-17 division heat Saturday. THIRD BELOW: Men’s 10K winner Sage Sarchet of Wailuku gives a shaka after the race. FOURTH PHOTO: Spectators cheer as 5K and 10K runners near the finish line.
