Rainbow Wahine sweep Roadrunners, remain unbeaten in Big West

Brooke Van Sickle and Amber Igiede each had 10 kills and four blocks, and the University of Hawaii women’s volleyball team swept past conference newcomer Cal State Bakersfield 25-18, 25-20, 25-18 on Saturday night at SimpliFi Arena at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.

Van Sickle also had a team-high 13 digs to record her eighth double-double of the season for the Rainbow Wahine, who improved to 11-5 overall, 8-0 in the Big West. With UC Santa Barbara’s loss to UC Davis on Saturday, UH is the last unbeaten team in conference play; the ‘Bows next play at UCSB on Friday.

Against the Roadrunners (10-6, 3-5), Skyler Williams added nine kills and four blocks to team with Igiede — who hit a blistering .667 — for a strong middle attack for Hawaii. Kate Lang had 33 assists as the Rainbow Wahine hit .270 for the match to Bakersfield’s .109.

Milica Vukobrat had nine kills to lead the Roadrunners, who held early leads in all three sets before UH eventually rallied in each, including a 10-1 run in the third that ended the match.
