Rainbow Warriors sweep newbie Edward Waters

Kana’i Akana and Spyros Chakas each had six kills on Friday night as the No. 1-ranked University of Hawaii men’s volleyball team swept past Edward Waters, which was playing its first official match in program history.

The Rainbow Warriors (3-0) emptied the bench in the 25-11, 25-7, 25-10 victory over Edward Waters, a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference member out of Jacksonville, Fla.

Setter Jakob Thelle, the reigning AVCA National Player of the Week, had 20 assists and five aces over the first two sets for UH. The Warriors hit .564 for the match compared to minus-.029 for the Tigers.

Kaelen Ingram led Edward Waters with seven kills.

The teams play again Sunday.
