Rainbow Wahine sweep Roadrunners for fifth straight victory

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.–The University of Hawaii women’s volleyball team recorded its fourth straight sweep and fifth win in a row overall by defeating Cal State Bakersfield 25-16, 25-18, 25-19 on Saturday.

For the second straight match, UH’s middle blockers were solid. Amber Igiede recorded a match-high 16 kills and Kennedi Evans hit .636 with seven kills and no errors in 11 attacks.

With setters Kate Lang and Jackie Matias at the controls of the offense, UH (17-6, 10-2 Big West) hit over .300 for the fourth consecutive match. Lang issued 27 assists while Matias dished out a career-high 11. Riley Wagoner added seven kills with 10 digs.

All three sets against the Roadrunners (6-18, 2-10) were close early on, but the Rainbow Wahine found ways to pull away for their 13th sweep of the season.

Ava Palm and Sydney Dunning each posted nine kills to lead Cal State Bakersfield.

The Rainbow Wahine return home to host a couple of huge Big West matches. UH will battle fourth-place Cal Poly on Friday before taking on league-leader UC Santa Barbara on Saturday.
