OMG! Mom is LOL because she’s right about everything — including “no texting” at a family feast, especially on Mother’s Day.

Mom is also right in wanting to be treated to a meal out, and you will do her an honor by taking her and giving her your full attention. Just remember Mother’s Day Sunday is the busiest dining day of the year. So make reservations now to ensure that the whole family gets a seat. Here are some of Maui’s Scene’s picks.

Five Palms on Keawakapu Beach at the Mana Kai Resort in Kihei dishes up some of the best views all the way from Puu Kukui cinder cone to the Neighbor Island of Lanai. Dine at the all-you-can-eat brunch buffet on farmhouse cheese and charcuterie items, Chinatown-style fresh catch, carved to order roast leg of lamb and prime rib, and a lavish raw bar with chilled seafood options from sushi to sashimi. You may also enjoy tropical island fruits and salads, omelets made to order, eggs Benedict with hollandaise, freshly baked pastries with housemade jams and flavored butters, and an array of desserts.

Early birds who arrive from 8 to 9 a.m. will be charged $54.95 for adults. Regular seatings from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. cost $59.95 for adults and $34.95 for children 12 and younger. The opulent Grand Dining Room that overlooks the dolphin pools and the ocean beyond at Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort will dazzle with an elaborate buffet from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Executive Chef Ryan Urig and his staff will let you wake up to Belgian waffles, brioche French toast, Kona-crab Benedict with cilantro hollandaise, apple-banana pancakes with whipped coconut cream, omelets made to order, and chicken and country sausages.

Cold selections include Kula strawberries, assorted fresh berries, Big Island watermelon, farm-to-table salads and lots of deviled eggs. The seafood table will glisten with shrimp, snow crab, oysters and smoked scallops with Cognac sauce. Sushi will include spicy hamachi, ahi tuna, soft-shell crab and California rolls. Cheeses and charcuterie meats will be accompanied by artisan breads.

Hot entrees are spring pea ravioli, Kona lobster mac ‘n’ cheese, roasted spiral-cut ham studded with Maui Gold pineapple, pan-seared scallops, smoked prime rib in truffle demi glace, passion fruit-glazed pork and crispy Hawaiian snapper. Mom will love the dark-chocolate mousse, coconut financier, red-velvet cupcakes and action station with fresh beignets and sauces. Executive Pastry Chef Fabrice Benezit will go all out with his extravagant display of sweets. Buffet cost is $98 per adult.

In addition, give Mom the gift of relaxation with Spa Grande’s “Grand Mother’s Day” package, and following the treatment, she will receive a $25 voucher to enjoy at the resort’s Bistro Molokini restaurant. For all Grand Wailea reservations, call 875-1234.

Sink your teeth into a prime cut of steak; swirl and sip a big, red wine and crunch steak house gourmet salads at Ruth’s Chris Steak House with two locations on Maui: One upstairs in The Shops at Wailea and the other in Outlets of Maui in Lahaina.

The big news is both locations will open at noon for Mother’s Day. Other house favorites are sizzling petite filet and lobster tail, mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, chilled seafood towers in small and large sizes, Porterhouse steak for two and New Orleans bread pudding. Ka’anapali Beach Hotel will feature Hawaiian music and hula entertainment at the Mother’s Day brunch complete with free-flowing bubbly from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Tiki Terrace in the oceanfront courtyard.

Feast on all-you-can-eat ginger-chicken, fresh salads, slow-roasted prime rib, ham glazed in passion fruit, oysters on the half shell; shrimp cocktail, ahi poke and spicy-tuna salad. Other highlights are Hawaiian laulau made in-house and lobster mac ‘n’ cheese. A host of desserts and a keiki station top it off. Cost is $58 for adults and $28 for children 6 to 12. Prefer to cook for Mom at home? Maui Prime Fine Foods at Emerald Plaza in Lahaina is the place to pick up surf ‘n’ turf specials made with the finest cuts of meat and the freshest seafood along with snow crab claws, gourmet wines and cheeses and fresh oysters.

“We are taking orders again for our Maui Steamer Pots,” says Maui Prime’s Jason Mahon. “You keep the pots we fill with lobster tail, crab, clams, shrimp, local corn, white-wine broth for steaming and French baguette for dipping. It’s for a minimum of two people and can accommodate four, six or eight, if requested. Call 661-4912.

Leoda’s Kitchen & Pie Shop in Olowalu takes Mom back in time with its quaint and retro look. Leoda’s is part of the Na Hoaloha Ekolu family of award-winning West Maui restaurants, including Star Noodle, Old Lahaina Lu’au and Aloha Mixed Plate. At Leoda’s, you may order her a sweet or savory pie in advance or come in for Mother’s Day and enjoy frittatas and chicken and waffles. Hours are 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Call 662-3600.

Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar has two locations on Maui, one on Office Road in Kapalua above The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua and the other in Kihei near Foodland.

“In Kapalua, our new Executive Chef James Furnish will do seared ahi and shrimp cake and he’ll put up another fun appetizer, too,” says Tom Alejado, managing partner and a longtime Sansei employee.

The Mother’s Day Sansei special from the sushi bar will be Japan fresh blue fin tuna made into sushi or sashimi. The corporate Sushi Chef Masa Hattori will also make New Zealand Ora king salmon carpaccio with kale and harusame salad, yuzu-miso blue marlin sashimi with Maui onion, jalapenos and micro greens in sauce, and Wagu beef carpaccio with truffled ginger scallion sauce. Moms who love oysters will find shooters with quail egg and four ousters on the half shell in ponzu sauce.

“Our hours have changed,” says Alejado. “Sansei now opens at 5 p.m. because we have more demand. We will also feature specialty rolls such as Hawaiian Double Decker, Kapalua Surf & Turf and Super Red Dragon Roll.” For more details, call 669-6286 or 879-0004.

Treat Mom to a gourmet brunch buffet from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at signature Cane & Canoe restaurant in Montage Kapalua Bay. Chef de Cuisine Robert Barrera will wow you with starters, breakfast favorites, raw bar, carving station meats, sides, a keiki station and dessert.

Begin the day with kale salad with hearts of palm in lemon vinaigrette, followed by cold-smoked salmon and artisan charcuterie. Dive into chilled lobster tails, poached prawns and crab legs with sauces. Let chefs hand carve sweet-and-spicy glazed pork loin for you as well as herb-roasted prime rib. Wake up to eggs Benedict with Black Forest ham and stuffed Hawaiian sweet bread French toast with Surfing Goat Dairy cheese and strawberries. For dessert, sample mini tiramisu, lilikoi cheesecake, cookies and malasadas with pineapple sauce. Cost is $75 per adult and $40 per child ages 5 to 12. Call 662-6681.

In Waikapu, King Kamehameha Golf Club will put on a Mother’s Day brunch to remember. From the windows, gaze out over views of the south and north Maui coasts with Haleakala as a backdrop, and enjoy music by Ron Kuala’au.

The buffet will offer two seatings at 9 a.m. and noon. The all-you-can-eat affair features Caesar salad, assorted cheeses, smoked salmon with cream cheese, capers and bagels, fresh ahi poke with shoyu, carved prime rib of beef, made-to-order omelets, steamed snapper, baked chicken breast, seafood linguine in chardonnay sauce, garlic mashed potatoes, breakfast meats, fresh Kula vegetables, white rice and desserts such as seasonal fruits, pies, cakes and much more. Charley’s Restaurant & Saloon in Paia is a casual and comfy “go-to” a la carte brunch spot on Maui’s north shore. Starting at 8 a.m., savor Auntie Kelly’s crab cake Benedict, chocolate-strawberry French toast, pan-seared mahimahi with mango salsa and sticky rice and champagne specials and a Bloody Mary bar. Charley’s “Queenz” show from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday celebrates Mother’s Day and benefits Women Helping Women. Entertainers include Gail Swanson, Cheryl Rae, Nara Boone, Natalie Nicole, Rabbitt and Karrie O’Neill. For the 21-and-older “Queenz” show, a $20 donation is suggested. The 46th annual Seabury Hall Craft Fair will once again draw in the crowds rain or shine from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday on the school campus at 480 Olinda Road, Makawao.

Bring your appetites and eco-friendly shopping bags for the Maunalei Grindz food court experience. Buy Mom gifts made on Maui such as art, jewelry, sculptures, fashion, floral designs and potted plants. Music fans can take in live entertainment. Bargain hunters may bid at auction and revel in a rummage sale. Adding to the fun will be a giant water slide along with old-style game stations, face-painting booths and bouncy castles for the kids.
