Hellvig leads UH past Long Beach State

Hanna Hellvig put down 17 kills to lead the 11th-ranked University of Hawaii women’s volleyball team to a four-set victory over Long Beach State on Friday in Long Beach, Calif.

Norene Iosia had 20 assists and 15 digs, and Bailey Choy had 16 assists and six digs to guide the Rainbow Wahine (11-1) to the 25-16, 21-25, 25-21, 25-16 win in their Big West Conference opener.

UH hit just .219 for the match, but held Long Beach State to .152 while also getting six aces to just one for the 49ers.

Kashauna Williams led the Beach (3-11, 0-2 Big West) with 14 kills.

The Rainbow Wahine play at Cal State Northridge today.
