Julissa Tago had 18 points and Lauren Rewers had 13 points and 11 rebounds to lead the University of Hawaii women’s basketball team to a 52-51 victory over Pepperdine on Friday in Malibu, Calif.

Trailing 22-19 at halftime, the Rainbow Wahine (2-1) outscored the Waves 22-10 in the third quarter to take a 41-32 lead.

UH grew its lead to 12 on a 3 by Savannah Reier to open the fourth and later to 13 at 52-39 with 3 minutes, 24 remaining before Pepperdine’s furious 12-0 rally to end the game.

The Waves drew within one point on a pair of technical foul shots by Deezha Battle with 39 seconds left, but Pepperdine then missed a layup and three jumpers — including two in the paint — as time ran out.

Battle led the Waves (1-2) with 10 points.

The Rainbow Wahine host UTSA next Friday and Texas Southern on Nov. 24 in the Bank of Hawaii Classic.
