The University of Hawaii women’s volleyball team used a big late rally to take the opening set on its way to a sweep of Long Beach State on Friday night at the Simpli Fi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.

Brooke Van Sickle led the Rainbow Wahine with 15 kills and also had nine digs, and Riley Wagoner added 11 kills and seven digs in the 26-24, 25-16, 25-21 win.

Skyler Williams had eight kills while hitting a match-high .467, and Kate Lang had 37 assists while directing UH to a .349 hitting percentage. Lang also led the team with 11 digs.

Hawaii trailed 23-20 before going on a 6-1 run to steal the opening set. After staving off an LBSU set point at 24-23, UH scored three straight points — the final on a thunderous block by Amber Igiede and Lang — to take it.

After the Rainbow Wahine romped to a Game 2 win, they broke away late in the third to improve to 6-5, 3-0 in Big West Conference play.

Erykah Lovett had 15 kills and Kashauna Williams added 14 for the Beach (6-8, 0-3).

Hawaii next plays Cal State Fullerton on Sunday.
