Hawaii falls to Long Beach State in MPSF title match

The University of Hawaii men’s volleyball team squandered an early lead and fell short in its bid for its first Mountain Pacific Sports Federation title Saturday, losing 17-25, 25-20, 25-13, 25-23 in the championship match in Long Beach, Calif.
The Rainbow Warriors (26-5), ranked fourth in the nation, can receive one of two at-large berths to the NCAA tournament when the bracket is announced today. The tournament begins May 2.
Kupono Fey had 14 kills and four digs for UH, and Stijn van Tilburg had 12 kills — they were both named to the all-tournament team.
Rainbow Warriors middle blocker Hendrik Mol left in the second set with a leg injury.
All-tournament pick Kyle Ensing had 15 kills for the top-ranked 49ers (27-4). T.J. DeFalco, who was named the tournament’s most outstanding player, finished with 12 kills and nine digs.
