Rainbow Wahine rally to beat Northwestern in opener

Amber Igiede had team highs of 14 kills and nine digs as the University of Hawaii women’s volleyball team opened the season with a come-from-behind 18-25, 25-18, 22-25, 25-21, 15-7 victory over Northwestern in the Hawaiian Airlines Rainbow Wahine Classic on Friday night at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.
Riley Wagoner added 13 kills and had 12 digs, Caylen Alexander had 12 kills and 12 digs, and freshman Tali Hakas posted 10 kills — hitting .357 — and nine digs in her debut for the Rainbow Wahine.
Julia Sangiacomo led the Wildcats with 17 kills.
The road only gets tougher for UH as it takes on No. 13 San Diego tonight before wrapping up the tournament against No. 9 Oregon on Sunday. The Ducks swept the Toreros earlier Friday.
