UH cruises past CS Bakersfield

Amber Igiede posted team highs of 12 kills and five blocks as the University of Hawaii women’s volleyball team dominated Cal State Bakersfield 25-8, 25-20, 25-19 in UH’s Big West Conference opener Friday night at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.
Caylen Alexander added nine kills and nine digs, and Kate Lang dished out 29 assists as she directed a Rainbow Wahine (8-4) attack that outhit the Roadrunners .323 to .094. UH also held significant advantages in digs (45-37) and blocks (6-2).
After never trailing in racing to a first-set win, UH was behind briefly at 5-4 in the second set before taking control with an 11-3 run. It was more of the same in the third set as the Rainbow Wahine never trailed, opening up a 17-7 lead before holding off a Bakersfield rally that saw the Roadrunners (5-9) get as close as four points, the final time at 20-16.
Breklyn Pulling led Bakersfield with nine kills.
The Rainbow Wahine next host Cal State Northridge on Sunday.
