Beach sweep past ‘Bows
LONG BEACH, Calif.–The University of Hawaii women’s volleyball team was swept by Long Beach State, 25-22, 26-24, 25-21 on Friday at the Walter Pyramid on the Long Beach State campus.
UH (9-5, 2-1 Big West) committed a combined 32 errors – 19 hitting, 10 serving and three receiving as the Beach (9-5, 3-1) were able to finish each set strong and complete a sweep in the nationally televised matchup.
Rainbow Wahine middles Amber Igiede and Kennedi Evans combined for 17 kills with a .307 hitting percentage, but the three starting pin-hitters struggled, hitting a combined .030 for the match.
Igiede was tied with the Beach’s Abby Karich with a match-high 13 kills, while Evans was in on a career-high eight blocks while adding four kills.
The Beach held slight advantages in hitting percentage (.180 to .157) and digs (56 to 50), but Hawaii won the blocking battle 12 to 7.
UH next plays at UC San Diego today.
