Rainbow Warriors no match for No. 23 Gaels in 92-58 charity exhibition loss

Jovon McClanahan scored 16 points but also had six turnovers as the University of Hawaii men’s basketball teams lost to No. 23 Saint Mary’s 92-58 in a charity exhibition game Friday night at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.
The Rainbow Warriors were no match for the Gaels, who shot 58.6 percent (34 of 58) in the game, including 61.3 percent in the first half as they opened up a 46-29 lead.
Harry Rouhliadeff added nine points for Hawaii, which shot 40.9 percent (18 of 44).
Aidan Mahaney finished with 25 points on 9-of-13 shooting, and Augustas Marciulionis added 22 points and six assists for Saint Mary’s.
The Gaels scored 22 points off UH’s 15 turnovers and also outscored the Rainbow Warriors 42-22 in the paint. They also held a 31-20 rebounding advantage that led to an 16-4 edge in second-chance points.
Net proceeds from the game will benefit UH faculty, staff and students affected by the Maui wildfires.
The Rainbow Warriors open the season on Nov. 14 with a home game against UH Hilo.
