The Maui News
In a match of wild swings of momentum, the University of Hawaii women’s volleyball team lost a five-set marathon to Cal Poly 10-25, 25-22, 15-25, 25-14, 15-12 on Friday night at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.
Caylen Alexander had 18 kills and Amber Igiede added 11 kills to lead the Rainbow Wahine (17-7, 10-3 Big West), who saw their five-match winning streak end. Kendra Ham chipped in nine kills, hitting .538, and setter Kate Lang had 44 assists and 16 digs for UH.
After Hawaii dominated in the first set, the Mustangs (16-10, 10-4) fought back to lead most of the second. The Rainbow Wahine grabbed the momentum back by running away with the third set before the pendulum swung back to Cal Poly, which jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the fourth and never looked back.
The fifth set was tied 12-12 before the Mustangs closed out the win with three straight points.
