Women’s flyweight champion Ilima-Lei Macfarlane of Oahu defeated Valerie Letourneau by submission in the third round of their main event title fight at Bellator 213 on Saturday night at Neal Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu.

After two close rounds, Macfarlane (9-0) took Letourneau (10-7) to the ground and got her into a triangle choke, forcing the Canadian challenger to tap out at 3:19 and send the hometown crowd into a frenzy.

It is Macfarlane’s second successful defense of her title, following her submission win over Alejandra Lara in June.

In the co-main event, former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida earned a big win in his Bellator debut, defeating former Bellator middlewight champion Rafael Carvalho by split decision.
