Art extravaganza Friday at Bill Wyland Galleries
Bill Wyland Galleries on Front Street in Lahaina will be presenting an art extravaganza from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday.
According to gallery director Michael Murray, featured artists include Maui’s own visionary painters from Florence, Italy, Alessio and Marcello Bugagiar, known as The Twins. Their work reflects both their talents: Marcello, the visionary, the craftsman. He brings an energetic creativity and vision to their art. Alessio, the technician, studied art his entire life, having trained at the prestigious Accedemia of Belle Arti in Florence. They will be showing a variety of their work which reflects a juxtaposition of the classic and the contemporary. During this show, The Twins will be unveiling new oil on copper abstracts.
Also appearing is Californian Jon Rattenbury. He is known for mesmerizing nature paintings done on boards using acrylic paints that incorporate glass particles. His attention to detail, use of vibrant colors and light, and portrayal of nature sets his art apart. In between painting his inspirational works, Rattenbury also writes New Age music.
If you’ve ever admired the artwork of album covers, you’re probably familiar with Maui resident Ruby Mazur’s work. He is one of a handful of contemporary artists, illustrators and designers whose work has influenced the public conciousness and pop culture for decades. He is the creative vision behind over 3,000 album covers, and his logo designs are icons of the Rock ‘n’ Roll generation. His most famous creation is the original Rollling Stones “tongue and mouth” image used on their “Tumbling Dice” album.
