Online travel guide TripAdvisor honors four Maui businesses

The online travel guide TripAdvisor has awarded the Royal Lahaina Resort, Lahaina Divers, SEGWAY Maui and the Old Wailuku Inn at Ulupono with certificates of excellence, according to announcements.

It is the second such award for the inn, which earned its first in 2011.

The four businesses were recognized for being among the top 10 percent of businesses worldwide on TripAdvisor, which tracks travelers’ ratings of businesses.

The certificate “validates the hard work and aloha of our resort staff,” said Tom Bell, president of Hawaiian Hotels & Resorts, which owns and operates the Royal Lahaina Resort. “Our most important assets are our guests who return year after year and who tell their friends, family and TripAdvisor about their memorable experiences here.”

Greg Howeth, president of Lahaina Divers Inc., said the certificate of excellence was recognition of his company’s customer service.

“We strive to offer our customers a memorable experience, and this accolade is evidence that our hard work is translating into positive reviews on TripAdvisor,” he said.

SEGWAY Maui provides “eco-friendly transportation,” according to an announcement. The company is the only Segway dealership on Maui offering sales and services for the “personal transporters.” It also offers Segway tours of the island.

The Old Wailuku Inn, built in 1924, has been called the “Queen of Wailuku homes,” according to an announcement. It was restored and opened as a bed-and-breakfast establishment in 1997. It has seven distinctive bedrooms. In 2002, three additional bedrooms were opened at the Vagabond’s House, next door to the main building.

The inn is located at 2199 Kahookele St. It has been listed on the Hawaii State Register of Historic Places and has won the “Keep in Hawai’i” award for accommodations from the Hawai’i Visitors & Convention Center.
