Anytime Fitness to open W. Maui club

Anytime Fitness is coming to Lahaina.

According to Maui franchisee Kalani Ross, he recently signed a lease for a 4,500-square-foot space in the Lahaina Square Shopping Center on Wainee Street. Construction is set to start immediately with a tentative opening scheduled for summer.

“What differentiates Anytime Fitness from the other clubs is our focus on helping members get the results they’re seeking,” said Ross.

Volcom opens in Shops at Wailea

Volcom celebrated its new location at The Shops at Wailea on May 1 with a Hawaiian blessing ceremony led by Kahu Richard Maele DeLeon.

The California-based swim, surf and skate brand features a wide range of local Hawaii surf products — ranging from boardshorts, rashguards, sandals and including a full range of Hawaii-inspired items. Maui visitors and residents can shop the unique collection of outerwear, swimwear, shoes and comfortable streetwear.

The 2,500-square-foot store is located on the ground level and is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Local residents with valid ID can enjoy a 10 percent kamaaina discount.

Merrie Monarch flyers get treats

Maui Crisps founders Blaine and Beth Apo welcomed Hawaiian Airlines guests traveling from Kahului to Hilo on April 25 with a tasty surprise — complimentary snack bags of their artisanal beef chips.

All guests on flight HA140, including hula dancers headed to the 2019 Merrie Monarch Festival, received the special-edition package, created exclusively for the 56th annual edition of the prestigious hula competition in collaboration with local printmaker Sig Zane.

Hawaiian Airlines, a long-standing sponsor of the Merrie Monarch, introduced Maui Crisps as a snack available for purchase on the Pau Hana Cart in-flight service in March. The crisps are currently available on flights between Hawaii and North America, as well as Sydney and Brisbane in Australia and Auckland, New Zealand.

Credit union opens at Pu’unene center

Hawaii State Federal Credit Union celebrated the grand opening of its newly relocated 2,700-square-foot branch at Pu’unene Shopping Center on April 27.

A blessing ceremony and in-branch festivities included promotional giveaways, refreshments and the chance to win gift cards from participating Pu’unene Shopping Center businesses.

In addition, Maui Friends of the Library provided free donated children’s books to keiki in attendance. To commemorate the grand reopening, Hawaii State FCU presented a $2,500 check donation to the Maui Food Bank.

Hawaii State FCU was founded in 1936. Serving state, city and county employees as well as nonprofits and select businesses and their families across the state, the credit union has more than 106,000 members and $1.5 billion in assets.

Hawaii Life Realtors honored in Paris

Christie’s International Real Estate recognized Hawaii Life Real Estate Brokers as Overall Affiliate of the Year winner for 2018, the highest honor bestowed by the world’s leading real estate network, in a ceremony that took place last month in Paris.

Owner Matt Beall accepted the crystal obelisk trophy at a black-tie dinner at the Palace of Versailles, a venue not open to the general public, making the evening all the more special. Beall was unaware of his win until that evening’s announcement by Zackary Wright, executive director of Christie’s International Real Estate, before a crowded room of network colleagues.

Hawaii Life is the state’s leading luxury real estate brokerage firm with 17 offices statewide, including in Wailea, Lahaina, Kapalua and Paia on Maui. The firm employs close to 350 real estate agents statewide and had a combined sales of $1.7 billion in 2018.

Shopping shuttle covers west side

Outlets of Maui in Lahaina unveiled its new Shopping Shuttle last month. The service ferries passengers between Kaanapali and Lahaina.

Decked out with colorful graphics, the 27-seat cashless shuttle operates from 10 a.m to 10 p.m. daily. One-way fares are $3 per person (children under 12 ride free) and each rider receives a discount coupon book for over 30 retail and dining establishments.

The shuttle stops at the Aston Kaanapali Shores, Honua Kai Resort, Royal Lahaina, Ka’anapali Beach Hotel, Marriott’s Maui Ocean Club, Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa, Outlets of Maui and Lahaina Harbor.

Maui Family Dojo has new home

Maui Family Dojo, offering martial arts, leadership and fitness programs for keiki and adults from Ho’omana Barbell Gym since 2016, opened its very own dojo May 1 at the Waiehu Beach Center, located at 270 Waiehu Beach Road.

The operation is led by instructor Shane Winans, a 3rd-degree black belt with more than 15 years’ experience in Songahm Taekwondo.

Classes are available on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays in the new Waiehu location between 3:30 and 8 p.m. There’s also Maui Family ATA dojo in Haliimaile for Upcountry residents.

Maui Family Dojo & Maui Family ATA are licensed with ATA International, the world’s largest organization dedicated to teaching martial arts to the entire family.

Indian restaurant opens in Lahaina

Indian Grill N Curry, the only Indian restaurant on the west side, opened its doors April 12 at The Wharf Cinema Center in Lahaina.

Owner/Chef Javed Shaikh presents a fusion of Indo-Western cuisines, blending only fresh, local ingredients with unique spices from India. Customers can experience everything from tandoor and barbeque to grills and curries, all under one roof in a casual atmosphere.

Prior to moving to Maui, Shaikh lived in India and England, where he was able to learn, mesh and create dishes from the combined cultures.

Indian Grill N Curry is located on the plaza level of The Wharf center at 658 Front St. It is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Validated parking is available in the parking lot directly behind The Wharf, accessible from Wainee and Luakini streets.

BOH offers debit card controls

According to Gallup’s 2018 Crime Poll, 1 in 4 people report that they or a member of their household has had personal information stolen by hackers in the last 12 months.

Bank of Hawaii announced in April its Debit Card Controls to help consumers take charge of their finances and to help prevent fraud.

Through the BOH mobile banking app, controls allow customers to turn their debit cards on and off, set spending limits, set customized alerts and control their cards by location, merchant and transaction type.
