Trilogy adds keiki camp to Lanai sail

Trilogy Excursions recently announced Ocean Adventure Camp as part of its Discover Lana’i excursion this summer.

Available now through August, Trilogy’s keiki campers on its sailing cruses to Lanai will be led by a certified “ocean naturalist,” with curriculum presented in an age-appropriate way, aimed to encourage kids to become ocean ambassadors. Campers will experience hands-on learning and exploration with topics including Hawaiian culture, sailing, boat terminology, marine life and conservation and sustainability efforts, according to an announcement.

Trilogy Operations Manager Dani Kleinhenz participated in Trilogy’s first Ocean Adventure Camp at the age of 7 over two decades ago. She considers that experience to be the catalyst for her career in the marine biology field.

“As a mom and marine-science nerd, I am thrilled to have this camp experience back at Trilogy,” Kleinhenz said.

All Trilogy camp counselors are CPR and first-aid certified. Parents can check in on their kids at any time during the day. Maui tour makes TripAdvisor Top 10

Sea tour company Redline Rafting Co.’s excursion off the South Maui coast was recently named one of the Top 10 travel experiences in the U.S., according to users of TripAdvisor.

Molokini Crater and Maui’s Forbidden Coast Green Sea Turtle Adventure has been named to TripAdvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Experiences — meaning it is one of the top 10 travel experiences in the U.S., coming in at No. 7, according to an email news release.

According to the TripAdvisor site, the sea tour departs early from Kihei’s Small Boat Ramp in military-inspired rafts, with the goal to arrive first at Molokini Crater.

After a continental breakfast, snorkelers spend time swimming among tropical fish and rays. The tour then takes a rare trip to the back side of Molokini, a place few visitors get to swim, according to the site. Then it is on to La Perouse Bay — for spinner dolphins and lava rock coast views — before heading to Turtle Town and the chance to swim alongside Hawaiian green sea turtles in their natural habitat.

Airline celebrates 5 years of service

To celebrate the fifth anniversary of service between Honolulu and Molokai and Lanai, ‘Ohana by Hawaiian employees gifted 1 million HawaiianMiles each to two nonprofit organizations that benefit the islands’ residents.

Molokai Cancer Fund assists cancer patients by providing access to medical services, lodging and transportation. Volunteers also help secure air travel for patients to visit treatment centers located throughout the state. Lanai Kina Ole, a human services organization, provides kupuna (elderly) and their families free home health care and medical support by a team of registered nurses and certified nursing assistants.

Both nonprofits rely on the airline’s fleet of ATR-42 twin-engine turboprop aircraft to help their clients access medical services and supplies that are not readily available within their communities.

“These organizations play an instrumental role in the well-being of Lanai and Molokai’s communities and it’s been an honor to celebrate our milestone year alongside their teams,” said Alanna James, managing director of ‘Ohana by Hawaiian.

Also to honor the anniversary, Team Kokua employee volunteers — representing Empire Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines — conducted a community service activity recently at the Moloka’i Land Trust’s Mokio Preserve on the island’s rugged northwestern coast. Twenty employees from Honolulu, Lanai and Molokai worked alongside the trust’s staff to remove deeply rooted invasive plants from the Anapuka Dunes, a 60-acre parcel within the 1,769-acre preserve, according to an airline blog post.

“As kamaaina and employees of one of Molokai’s major carriers, we have a responsibility to protect and preserve this island,” said Adrien Gonzalez, ‘Ohana by Hawaiian Team Kokua volunteer.

‘Ohana by Hawaiian, operated by Empire Airlines, first launched service between Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport and Molokai Airport and Lanai Airport in 2014. Today, ‘Ohana by Hawaiian offers five daily round-trip flights between Honolulu and Lanai City and three daily round-trip flights between Honolulu and Hoolehua on Molokai.

New bakery opens in Kaanapali area

A new source for fresh baked goods is now open in the Kaanapali resort area.

Fairway Shops in Kaanapali announced in a news release that new tenant Hoi Hoi Patisserie opened its doors May 6. It is its second location on Maui.

Hoi Hoi Patisserie offers fresh pastries and Danishes with a rotating selection of Asian-style and European-style breads, cookies, snacks and cakes, according to the news release. Its best-selling items include a churro custard “cruffin,” pistachio orange chocolate Danish and any of its freshly made cakes.

Catering and custom-made cakes for special events are available. Special orders require at least two days lead time, depending on the size and scope of the order.

The bakery is open Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closed Sunday. Hoi Hoi Patisserie’s flagship store is located in Wailuku. For more information, call (808) 214-6816.
