Financial services office is blessed

E.A. Buck will open a new satellite office in Kahului on Wednesday at 33 Lono Ave., Suite 310, with a blessing by Earnest Pua’a.

The financial services firm will be staffed by longtime Maui financial adviser Corrinna Paxton, along with Jeremy Shaffer.

“We’d like to thank Maui families for welcoming us into their community,” CEO Katie Buck said in a news release. “We know our success on Oahu is a direct result of helping families achieve success.”

The company has operated nearly 40 years on Oahu and has grown to more than 5,000 clients, the release said.

New window prize winners announced

Maui Windows and Doors in Wailuku recently announced Lee and Tanya Barbero of Kahului as the winners of its Christmas giveaway.

The two will receive a new Anderson 100 series windows and sliding doors package, including installation for the whole house, a Dec. 25 news release said.

The giveaway, which received dozens of entries, sought essays on nominations for deserving people. The Barbero family is active in a church community, supports nonprofits and fosters children, according to the release.

Utility lauded for extending internet

Hawaiian Telcom was recognized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, a technical professionals organization, at its global conference on the Big Island last month, according to a news release.

The company received the inaugural General Chair’s Award for its efforts in bringing broadband access to Hawaii’s rural areas, the Dec. 17 release said.

Last year, Hawaiian Telcom brought services with speeds up to 940 megabits per second download and 300 Mpbs upload to more than 2,000 locations, primarily in Makawao and on the Big Island.

Maui restaurants in Top 100 in America

Open Table last month released the Top 100 Restaurants in America for 2019, which included Lahaina Grill in Lahaina and Mama’s Fish House in Paia — the only two winners in the state.

The top restaurants are decided by OpenTable diners and cover everything from “one-of-a-kind dining experiences to local favorites,” a Dec. 17 news release said.

California was No. 1 with 22 restaurants featured. Florida, New York and Pennsylvania tied for second place with seven restaurants each, and Illinois had six winners.

Additional states with winners include Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Oregon, Alabama, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, Virginia and Washington, along with Washington, D.C.

New eatery sets table in Wailuku

SixtyTwo MarcKet, a new farm-fresh eatery by chef Marc McDowell, opened at 62 N. Market St. in Wailuku, last month.

The menu rotates seasonally every 62 days and features “innovative, farm-fresh cuisine in a crisp, tasteful, farmhouse atmosphere,” a Dec. 9 news release said.

“We only want to provide the freshest food from the land and the ocean to our guests, and serve up happiness,” McDowell said in a release. “Plus, we get to support our local farmers and vendors with every meal we serve.”

Whale watching planned from sky

Blue Hawaiian Helicopters recently released new “Heli-Whale Experience Tours,” a January announcement said.

With peak humpback whale season from January to March, the tours will combine views of West Maui Mountains and Maui’s central valley, with an “exploration of the humpbacks’ favorite places,” the news release said.
