Two theaters temporarily close on Maui

As of press time, Maui Scene learned that both Consolidated Theaters Ka’ahumanu and Regal Maui Mall Megaplex are temporarily closing in light of ongoing concerns regarding COVID-19.

Consolidated Theaters announced on Tuesday that it is taking this action in line with the direction, regulations and recommendations of federal, state and local government authorities, effective Tuesday.

Regal announced its temporary closure earlier. It was also effective Tuesday.

“The health and well-being of our guests and our theater teams is our top priority and we believe that this step will be the most effective way to both retain that priority and mitigate the spread of COVID-19,” said Consolidated Theatres in a news release.

Persons who purchases tickets on Consolidated Theatres website or mobile app for movies that will be impacted by the closure period will receive a refund for both the cost of the tickets and the online service fee, according to Consolidated Theatres.

Tickets purchased through any third-party platform, including Fandango, will be processed by that third party, according to Consolidated.

As of press time, Regency Kihei Cinemas had not announced any temporary closure.

Regal announced on its Facebook page that it was closing all theater locations as a precaution and that all theaters will remain closed until further notice.
