July 4th and beyond …

There will be two vivid fireworks displays in Maui County skies this week.

LahainaTown Action Committee will go pyrotechnic at 8 p.m. from a barge off Front Street, and restaurants from Kimo’s down to Pioneer Inn Grill & Bar will have optimum viewing.

The 26th annual Lanai Pineapple Festival will be a juicy affair from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday when fireworks will light up the sky over Dole Park. Expeditions will offer a late-night ferry at 10 p.m. from Manele to Lahaina Harbor, and there will be games, exhibits, crafts, entertainment, lots of ono food booths and the Plantation Era Food Contest with Adam Tabura, celebrity host and Lanai boy.

Tabura recently launched Season 11 of his popular TV show, “Cooking Hawaiian Style,” airing on Spectrum channel OC1016 at 7:30 p.m. Mondays.

The 64th annual Makawao Rodeo will be bucking up fun today through Sunday at Oskie Rice Arena. The bull bash is Friday and gates open at 4 p.m.

“Today is your last chance to get our presale tickets for the rodeo here,” says Pukalani Superette General Manager Jerry Masaki. “If you are still hungry after the festivities, bring in your rodeo coupon and we’ll give you 20 percent off of your food purchases.”

In addition, the world-famous 54th Makawao Parade begins its march at 8 a.m. Saturday. Get your carbs going with the ono Paniolo Pancake Breakfast. The cost of $5 includes pancakes and Portuguese sausage. Proceeds benefit Makawao Museum. Pick up at Habibi restaurant located on Baldwin Avenue.

“Generally people pick up their breakfast and are sitting on chairs or on the grass to watch the parade,” says a staffer. “Mary Orwig is our president.”

Maui Brewing Co. announced a major brand expansion last Friday at all of its Hawaii outlets. In Kihei, the launch party for MBC’s new, ready-to-drink canned-cocktail line, Kupu Spirits, was a big hit.

“We have to pinch ourselves when we think about the growth we’ve experienced over the past 15 years in business on Maui,” confides Garrett Marrero, CEO. “Kupu Spirits is the next stage of that growth, and we’re stoked to continue expanding our craft with this range of canned cocktails. This category is growing rapidly, and we’re proud to be at the forefront of the trend here in Hawaii.”

In Hawaiian, “kupu” means “to sprout” or “to grow,” and it symbolizes the meteoric rise of the company, according to Head Distiller Nick Reiss. Kupu flavors include Whiskey Ginger, Whiskey Cola and Gin & Tonic, the latter made with proprietary botanicals such as juniper, kaffir lime, local oranges from Marrero’s property, lemon peel, hibiscus and grains of paradise. Maui retail outlets include Foodland and Tamura’s stores.

By the way, Tony Ren is the general manager for MBC restaurant, also at the Kihei facility, and he’s doing a fab job with craft pub food — fast service for such a giant eatery — and live music, too. You’ve gotta love the arugula salad with pickles (it pairs perfectly with beer), and the fresh Hamakua mushroom pizza.

While Lahaina Coolers has taken a breather here and there from its monthly wine dinners, July is on course for 6:30 p.m.

Friday. Nobilo sauvignon blanc will be paired with seared scallop and mango-black-bean quinoa salad, Noble Vine rosé will flow with three-cheese raviolis in a sun-dried tomato beurre blanc, and William Hill merlot will shine with braised short ribs and roasted-carrot risotto. You may buy courses separately with or without wines, says owner Cruz Ortiz. For reservations and pricing, call the “Coolers” at 661-7082.
