1920 — D. H. Case received by the Lurline this morning from the University of Oregon 15 white leghorn hens and two cocks of exceptionally high pedigree. The Oregon University is claimed to have produced the heaviest-laying strain of leghorns in the United States.

1945 — Maui Boy Scouts this week joined the campaign to save the lives of American servicemen making beachheads in the Pacific. The scouts will collect photographs and maps and all other material pertaining to the Japanese-controlled areas.

1970 — A total of 19 coconut trees, donated by the Lahaina Hongwanji Mission, were planted in Wahikuli Beach Park by the Lahaina Jaycees.

1995 — Sunday, for the second time in three months, Maui police and state wildlife officials were called out to search for a black panther. Officials report they didn’t find any such creature roaming Napili.

2010 — County officials responded to some reports of overflowing sewers, but no other damage was reported following the small tsunami that struck Maui and the rest of the state Saturday.
