Nancy Kikuye (Sakamoto) Nitta of Wailuku, Maui, passed away on April 28, 2018 at Hale Makua in Wailuku. She was born in Lahaina on December 21, 1929 to Eitaro and Chise Sakamoto. Nancy graduated from Lahainaluna High School, and received degrees in Physical Education and Elementary Education from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. She returned to Maui after graduating and taught at various Maui elementary schools, including Puukolii School, Kamehameha III School , Puunene School and Wailuku Elementary School. Blythe Kelly Douglas, devoted and loving father, husband, son, brother and friend, died on May 1, 2018. He owned and operated Douglas Piano Movers and worked more than 30 years at Hyatt Regency, Maui. This vital man of action, service and love will be dearly missed. He was born in Lafayette, Louisiana on August 20, 1965. Blythe is survived by his treasured wife, Clarissa; daughter, Katie; son Elijah; parents, Bill and Kathryn Douglas; siblings, Cody, Creseda, Annie and Lane. Shiichi “Hank” Horiuchi, 91 of Paia, Maui passed away on May 1, 2018 at Hale Makua in Kahului. He was born on August 13, 1926 in Paia. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Mantokuji Soto Mission of Paia, service will begin at 11 a.m. and burial in the church cemetery will be held at a later date. Hank worked in the Maintenance Department at Maui Pineapple Company where he later retired. Dayna Kaono, 62, of Wailuku, Maui passed away on April 30, 2018. She was born on October 17, 1955 in Kohala, Hawaii. She retired as a Cosmetologist. Dayna is survived by her mother, Lottie Kukona; daughter, Heather (Keoni) Gabriel; brother, George (Denise) Kaono Jr.; sister, Georgette Torricer (Paul Gauthier); and nieces and nephews. Vern H. Peterson, 80, of Maui passed away on March 29, 2018 in Kula. He was born on January 13, 1938 in Port Townsend, Washington, raised by his aunt and hanai ohana on Oahu, and resided on Oahu and in the Bay Area of California in his youth and early adult life, and on Maui throughout his later life. Karen Hatsuko (Ota) Wintermyre, beloved mother, sister, aunt, friend, and doggie-grandma, lost her courageous 9-month battle with pancreatic cancer at age 76 on March 19, 2018 in Bend, OR. She was born in Wailuku, Maui, HI on May 4 1941 to Elsie Taeko Ota and Charles Iwao (Kas) Ota.
