Lillian Otake, 87, of Kahului, Maui passed away on August 11, 2017 at home. Private services were held at the Kahului Hongwanji Temple. Nakamura Mortuary assisted with arrangements. Lillian is survived by her daughter, Pamela (James) Montgomery; son, Glenn (Martha) Otake; daughter, Gayle (Ben) Sarmiento; grandchildren, Scott, Amy Cody, Kai, Kona, Steven, Justin and 7 great-grandchildren. Sylvia A. Yamashiro, 73, of Pukalani, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2017. Born on May 22, 1944 in Wailuku, she was a retired office clerk at Iao School. Services honoring Mrs. Yamashiro were held privately. Sylvia was predeceased by her husband Gerald Yamashiro Sr. and son Elroy Yamashiro. James ‘Jim’ Stubbs of Haiku, Hawaii passed away with his family at his bedside on August 6, 2017. A name was missing from the original obituary that ran Sunday, August 20, 2017 in The Maui News. In addition to his wife Carol, Jim is survived by his daughter Nikki Broyard, husband Derek and their two children, Olivia and Nicholas (Atlanta, GA); son Michael Stubbs, wife Nathalie and son Nathan; stepson Kai Harrison; sister Joyce Wagstaff (Rochester, NY), nieces, nephews and extended family in Rochester, NY, as well as all of his wonderful friends on Maui.

Joan L. Chalk, 92, of Kahului, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2017 at Hale Makua Kahului. Services will be held at Christ the King Church in Kahului on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017. Dennis John Lovell, born March 21, 1947, in Honolulu, Hawai‘i passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Wailuku, Maui. Dennis was the son of the late Margaret “Margie” Wood Higgins and Charles Lovell. Dennis graduated from Kalani High School in 1966. He attended California State University, Fresno, California, but his education was interrupted to enlist in to the US Army in 1967. He was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington USAR Control Group and at USAAC St. Louis, Missouri. He was also a Vietnam War Combat Veteran.
