Bernadette Elizabeth Spencer, 45, of Pukalani, passed away on July 9, 2017 at her home. She was born on March 8, 1972 in Los Angeles, California. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 28, 2017 at Ballard Family Mortuary. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., service 12:30 p.m., and burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Makawao Cemetery. Carole Sugimoto Ikeda, 90, of Wailuku, passed away peacefully under the compassionate care of Hospice Maui on July 9, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. Lloyd Lee Loope, 74, of Makawao, passed away July 4 in his home. A celebration of his life is being planned for a later time. Lloyd was a conservation biologist for the U.S. Geologic Survey and worked at Haleakala National Park. His passion was for preserving Hawaii’s native ecosystems; he was determined to quell the threat of invasive species. By calling attention to quarantine issues at Kahului Airport, he raised statewide public awareness of this serious problem.
