It's a new week in Maui County and that means plenty of new events, festivities, and fun to be had on the Valley Isle.
In an effort to support our beautiful Maui community, The Maui News is now listing our favorite Top 10 events each week to help build comradery and spread aloha to our ohana in Hawaii and elsewhere.
Please keep us in mind for any events you have coming up so that we may help spread the word to our readers near and far.
This week there's plenty of excitement happening – from live music at Duke's Beach House in West Maui to an adult hula competition at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center, you won't want to miss out on any of these crowd pleasers.

1. The Uluwehi Project (Thur., Sept. 12; 7:30 p.m., Kahului): The 2024 Kū Mai Ka Hula competition kicks off early with a film screening and discussion led by Lanihuli Kanahele, great-granddaughter of the late Edith Kanaka'ole. She will be accompanied by special guests as we celebrate this world-renowned mele, "Ka Uluwehi O Ke Kai", and all it encompasses. Located at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center's McCoy Studio Theater. 2. Aloha Fridays at Duke's Beach House (Fri., Sept. 13; 3-5 p.m., 130 Kai Malina Pkwy, Lahaina, HI 96761): Check out local act Damien Awai at the Duke's Beach House restaurant in the Honua Kai resort and help support Maui wildfire victims. Validated parking available.
3. Maui Health Career Fair (Fri., Sept. 14; 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Kahului): Head to the Maui Memorial Medical Center Main Lobby on Fri., Sept. 14 at 221 Mahalani Street if you're interested in a career in the medical field. For a list of all available jobs, visit mauihealth.org/careers
4. Kū Mai Ka Hula 2024-Maui's Premier Adult Hula Competition at the MACC (Sat., Sept. 14; 1 p.m., Kahului): Head to the Maui Arts & Cultural Center for the 17th Annual Kū Mai Ka Hula featuring award-winning hālau competing in solo, group and kupuna categories. Male and female dancers perform both kahiko (traditional) and 'auana (modern) hula stylings. Pre-show entertainment by Nāpili Kai Foundation will take place from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Yokouchi Pavilion. Solo and group competition begins in the Castle Theater at 1 p.m. the awards ceremony will follow. Tickets are $25. Food and drinks available to purchase at the venue. 5. Jazz Maui Presents "Mostly Duke" Featuring Jazz Pianist Tommy Jam (Sat., Sept. 14; 7:30-9:30 p.m., Kihei) The Jazz Maui 2024 Maui Music Series presents "Mostly Duke" featuring renowned pianist Tommy James on Sat., Sept. 14, 2024 at ProArts Playhouse located at 1280 S. Kihei Rd. in Kihei. "Mostly Duke" features the music of collaborators Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn. In addition to the standards such as "Take the A-Train" and "Satin Doll", the performance highlights lesser known gems including excerpts from the Ellington Suites, an award-winning album of their original compositions. The show begins at 7:30pm. Tickets are available at ProArtsMaui.org.
6. Slightly Stoopid With Steel Pulse & Makua Rothman at the MACC (Sun., Sept. 15; 6 p.m., Kahului): As a musical brotherhood since 1995, Slightly Stoopid, led by the vastly versatile duo of Miles Doughty and Kyle McDonald, has expanded its fusion of rock, reggae, acoustic soul, hip hop, heavy metal, and punk rock. Check them out with local act Makua Rothman and Steel Pulse. Tickets are $49.50. Call (808) 242-SHOW for more information. The MACC will be collecting non-perishable donations for the Maui Food Bank at this event for distribution to those impacted by the wildfires. Please give generously.
7. Ukulele Lessons at the Shops at Wailea (Mon, Sept. 16; 5:30-6:30 p.m., Wailea): Learn how to play the ukulele, an integral part of Hawaiian culture. New and experienced ukulele players of all ages are welcome to strum, sing and play. Located at 3750 Wailea Alanui Dr, Wailea, HI 96753.
8. Maui Street Market (Tue., Sept. 17; 8 a.m.-8 p.m., Kahului): Stop by on your lunch break or head to the market after work for a wide-range of local food vendors and more. Located at 150 Hana Highway, Kahului, HI.
9. Dirty Cello Returns (Wed., Sept. 18; 7:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m., Kihei): From Iceland to Italy, and all over the U.S., Dirty Cello brings a high energy and unique spin on blues, rock and Americana. Check them out this coming Wed., Sept. 18 at the ProArts Playhouse at 1280 S Kihei Rd, Azeka Makai Center in Kihei. Tickets start around $20. Learn more at ProArtsMaui.org.
10. Monthly Pub Run (Thur., Sept. 19; 5:15-7 p.m.; Wailea): Join the Valley Isle Road Runners every 3rd Thursday of the month at Waikiki Brewing Company South Side for the pub run series.
