1. Sanctuary Sea Chat Lecture Series (Thursday, Oct. 10; 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m., Kihei): The Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary presents the Sanctuary Sea Chat Lecture Series that will provide new insights into humpback whale behavior with Dr. Marc Lammers, research ecologist at HIHWNMS. The lecture will take place at the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary Lecture Hall at 726 S. Kihei Rd., in Kihei.
2. King Yellowman (Thursday, Oct. 10; 8 p.m., Wailuku): Head on down to Da Playground Maui for a special night of live music featuring King Yellowman. Known for his incredible history in reggae music, Yellowman captivates his audiences with his boastful and sometimes bodacious lyrics and crowd-pleasing performances. The performance will include special guest Mt. Islandz. Tickets start at $25 online and increase at the door and the day of the event. 3. J. Walter Cameron Center 50th Anniversary Celebration (Friday Oct. 11; 3 p.m.-6 p.m., Wailuku): This coming Friday you can join in the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the J. Walter Cameron Center with a special open house event celebrating five decades of serving the Maui community. There will be an exciting afternoon of performances with Maui Pops Orchestra, Maui Music Mission, resource fair and giveaways. Learn more by visiting jwcameroncenter.org/events online.
4. 2024 Annual Brigit & Bernards Garden Cafe Oktoberfest (Friday-Saturday, Oct. 11-12; 6 p.m., Kahului): For a starting price of $80 you can catch live music, an all you can eat buffet featuring homemade German bread, spaetzle, kalbsbratwurst, and more. There's a vegetarian menu available, as well. Head to Brigit & Bernard's Garden Cafe at 335 Hoohana St. in Kahului. There will be more Oktoberfest events later this month. 5. BrownChicken BrownCow Live in South Maui (Saturday, Oct. 12; 6 p.m.-10 p.m., Kihei): Stop by Mulligans on the Blue at 100 Kaukahi St. in Kihei for a special live performance by Maui's own BrownChicken BrownCow String Band on Saturday. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start around $20 and $35. Head to Mulligans on the Blue online at www.mulligansontheblue.com for more information or call (808) 500-5884.
6. Two Coffees Please presents ART; a Tony and Oliver Award Winner (Friday-Sunday, Oct. 11-13; 7:30 p.m. with a 5 p.m. show on Sunday, Kihei): Looking for some comedy and fun? Check out ART which is described as a play that is "funny, sophisticated, stylish, stimulating and moving." The production is translated by Chirstopher Hampton and directed by Brian Patrick Connolly. 8. Tai Chi (Monday, Oct. 14; 12 p.m.-12:30, Wailuku): Head to downtown Wailuku during your lunch break and practice some much-needed Tai Chi. 9. Island Wood Carvings at the Shops of Wailea (Tuesday, Oct. 15; 4 p.m.- 7 p.m.,Wailea): Stop by the Shops of Wailea at 3750 Wailea Alanui Dr, Wailea, HI 96753 for a traditional island wood carving demonstration. Sax on the Beach with Dr. Joie, Howie, Dave and Jeff (Wednesday, Oct. 16 ; 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m., Kihei): Presented by Hawaii Jazz, Mana'o Radio, and ProArts Playhouse--enjoy the sounds of Dr. Joie Yasha on vocals and sax, Howie Rentzer on drums, David Graber on bass and Jeff Hellmer on piano.
