October is here and that means it's time to start preparing your favorite Halloween costumes before the trick-or-treat festivities kickoff at the end of the month.

1. South Maui Artisan Market (Thursday, Oct. 3; 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Kihei): Head to South Maui and check out some handmade creations designed by Maui's talented artists, and demonstrate your support for the Valley Isle's creative community. Happening every Thursday at the South Maui Gardens at 35 Auhana Road, Kihei, HI 96753. Admission and parking is free.
2. 14th Annual Hawai'i Farmers Union United Convention (Friday-Sunday, Oct. 4-Oct.6th); times vary, Kahului): Enjoy this free community event that will feature local food, cultural activities, inspiring speakers, interactive workshops and more. There will be Maui-based agricultural experts, a concert, games, tropical fruit tasting and so much more! The event is hosted in collaboration with the Maui Food innovation Center and will be held at the Queen Ka'ahumanu Center at 310 W. Ka'ahumanu Ave. in Kahului. On Saturday, there will be a Gala Dinner at the Maui Food Innovation Center at the University of Hawai'i Maui College and tickets can be purchased ahead of time online. 3. Wailuku First Friday Spooktacular (Friday, Oct. 4; 6 p.m.-9 p.m., Wailuku): Looking for a family-friendly event to attend this weekend? Head down to Wailuku for the Wailuku First Friday's Spooktacular event that will include a keiki costume parade at 7:15 p.m. at the Market St. Stage, and enjoy the merchant trick or treat. 4. Snow Angel (Friday-Sunday, Oct. 4-Oct. 6; times vary, Wailuku): Head to Iao Theater at 68 N. Market St. this weekend for the Maui OnStage Education & Youth Program's Snow Angel production. Snow Angel is a funny and eerie tale of teen angst, discovery, and the power of believing. Ticket prices and times vary. Head to www.mauionstage.com for more information.
5. Festivals of Aloha Ka La'i o Hauola (Saturday, Oct. 5; all day, Lāna'i): Celebrate with this Ho'olaule'a with activities, local grindz, crafters and live entertainment by Sean Na'auao, Ke Kula Kaiapuni O Lāna'i, Polynesian Style, Kaniala Masoe, Hālau Kekuaokala'au'ala'iliahi and Saul Kahihikolo & Friends.
6. Keālia Pond First Saturday Event (Saturday., Oct. 5; 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Kihei): Explore the natural beauty of the Keālia Pond National Wildlife Refuge this weekend during these free guided nature and wildlife tours. Explore the Visitor Center, use free binoculars to see native waterbirds at the Wildlife Viewing Ponds, and admire the beauty of the Native Pollinator Garden. Located at Milepost 6 Maui Veterans Highway, Kihei, HI 96753.
7. Melissa Mae at Da Playground (Sunday, Oct. 6; 7 p.m., Wailuku): Comedy U & Da Playground Maui Present Melissa Mae who regularly performs at The Blue Note Hawaii as well as other venues across Oahu. She has shared the stage with world famous comedians such as Sheng Wang, Julie Kim, Nimesh Patel, Hans Kim and Esther Ku. Hosted by Jessica Rabbit Featuring Chino LaForge. Ticket prices vary.
8. Lei Po'o Making at The Shops at Wailea (Monday, Oct. 7; 2:30 p.m.- 3:30 p.m., Wailea): Learn how to weave a basic ti leaf lei using flowers and ferns, which can be worn on the head or around your neck. Learn how the lei expresses love and was gifted on very special occasions by the Hawaiian Ali'i (royalty). Lei making is open to both keiki (children) and adults. The Shops of Wailea are located at 3750 Wailea Alanui Dr, Wailea, HI 96753.
9. An Evening of Old World Elegance (Tuesday, Oct. 8; 6 p.m.,Wailea): This one is for all the wine-lovers out there--head to 100 Wailea Golf Club Drive Wailea, Hawaii 96753 and enjoy an assortment of wines expertly curated and presented by Master Sommelier Patrick Okubo. 10. Live Music at Maui Brew Co. in Ka'anapali (Wednesday, Oct. 9; 6 p.m.-8 p.m., Ka'anapali): Enjoy the view of Ka'anapali Beach with the sounds of live local music at Maui Brewing Company! Island-inspired cuisine available for purchase. Located in the Outrigger Ka'anapali Beach Resort. Guests may receive 2 hours of complimentary parking with validation in the parking garage.
