Megan’s Top 10 Events: Jan. 9-Jan. 15

There’s a lot to look forward to this week as we make our way into the first month of 2025.

From live music at Maui’s Ocean Organic Farm & Distillery for their monthly Sunday Paniolo nights to a West Maui stargazing event, there seems to be a little something for everyone this week and into the next.

Domaine de la Rivière Vineyards (Thursday, Jan. 9; 5:30 p.m., Kapalua): For all the wine-lovers out there, you can join in this culinary experience at The Ritz-Carlton in Kapalua, where you can indulge in a variety of Domaine de la Rivière Vineyards wines. This Thursday, you can check out a special evening featuring a five-course gourmet dinner crafted by Chef Donovan Foster that will be paired with Domaine de la Rivière’s finest wines. “On the Nile” at Maui ProArts Playhouse (Thursday, Jan. 9; 7:30 p.m., Kihei): You may engage on a musical voyage along the Nile River during this performance that is said to combine the ambient classical music of James Nevius with original choreography by Randi Lonzaga. “On the Nile” is a journey into the heart of ancient Egypt from the Pyramids of Giza to the depths of the Valley of the Kings. West Maui Stargazing Event (Friday, Jan. 10; 7 p.m.-9 p.m., West Maui): Enjoy a two-hour guided tour of the night sky led by knowledgeable astronomers from Stargazers Anonymous. Using a high-powered Celestron telescope with advanced computerized technology, you’ll be able to witness the night sky in detail. Located at 700 Punakea Loop in Lahaina. Check in is 7:15 p.m. Guests are encouraged to carpool, if possible. Price is $95 per person with an exclusive 20% Kama’aina Rate with Hawaii State ID – enter “KAMRATE” at checkout. Wheatus at Da Playground Maui (Friday, Jan. 10; 7 p.m., Wailuku): On Friday, there will be an intimate, acoustic evening with Wheatus, the band well-known for the iconic anthem “Teenage Dirtbag.” Head to daplaygroundmaui.com for tickets and more information. Tickets start at $20.

Whale Season Paint Party (Saturday, Jan. 11; 12 p.m.- 2 p.m., Wailuku): On January 11th, from 12-2 p.m., you can join in this Full Moon Fluke painting party at Maui Tropical Plantation. The painting party is ideal for ages 8 and up. Nonalcoholic drinks and snacks will be available for purchase, so you can sip and snack while you paint. Kanekoa in the Concert Hall (Saturday, Jan. 11; 6 p.m.- 8 p.m., Wailuku): Head to the Maui Coffee Attic at 59A Kanoa Street in Wailuku to see Kanekoa, one Hawai’i’s top touring bands. Expect an evening of rock, blues and originals. Tickets start at $20.

Paniolo Nights at Ocean Organic Farm & Distillery (Sunday, Jan. 12; 3:30 p.m.-7:15 p.m., Kula): Head to the Ocean Organic Farm & Distillery from 3:30 p.m.-7:15 p.m. Sunday to hear some amazing Paniolo (Country) music. There is a $5 admission fee that day, which can be pre paid via OpenTable, or on property upon entry. Enjoy organic craft cocktails and a large selection of fresh food from the farm’s delicious menu, while listening to live music. Maui Pops Orchestra (Sunday, Jan. 12; 3 p.m., Kahului): The Maui Arts & Cultural Center is hosting the Maui Pops Orchestra- Broadway Pops with guest vocalists Capathia Jenkins & Ryan Shaw. Head to 1 Cameron Way in Kahului for an afternoon of enchanting music. “Broadway & Beyond” provides a dazzling fusion of Broadway, jazz, up-beat pop, and soulful R&B hits. January One Night Only (Monday, Jan. 13; 6:30 p.m., Wailuku): Head to the historic Iao Theater on Monday night for a night of comedy for free. Hālau Hula I Kona Mau Lima Benefit at Flatbread Pizza (Tuesday, Jan. 14; 5 p.m.-9 p.m., Paia): A portion of all pizza sales this coming Tuesday will go to Hālau Hula I Kona Mau Lima. Eat pizza for a good cause.

10th Annual Maui Songwriters Festival (Wednesday, Jan. 15; 5-7 p.m. Kapalua): It’s that time of the year again. This coming Wednesday kicks off the annual Maui Songwriters Festival with a special VIP experience and performance by Frank Ray. Expect some sampling of Award Winning Cantera Negra Tequilas & specialty tequila cocktails paired with chef prepared cuisine. Learn more at mauisongwritersfestival.com.
