Happy 100th birthday Kaluanui

Hui No'eau Visual Arts Center in Makawao will be hosting its Kaluanui Centennial Festival & Family Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 22. The free family friendly event is open to the public and will celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the Hui's home, Kaluanui estate.

The Hui will be offering art projects for a small fee for all ages, as well as live artist demonstrations in glassblowing, printmaking, jewelry making and more.

Art with Aloha practitioner Dalani Tanahy of Kapa Hawaii, LLC, will be doing a kapa making demonstration throughout the event. Keiki, or children, will be able to make their own kapa-inspired flag for a keiki parade around the grounds of Kaluanui.

In addition, there will be an arts-based scavenger hunt that will be free for the first 100 keiki that sign up.

Guests to the celebration can shop, sip and support local artists at the Hui No'eau's Art Market. Crafts featuring Made on Maui product vendors and drafts of premium root beer generously donated by the Maui Brewing Co. will be available. If you get hungry, you can picnic on the lawn with food purchased from local food trucks.

Musical entertainment for the day includes performances by members of Samuel Enoka Kalama Intermediate School Ukulele Band; up and coming Maui singer/songwriter Miss Bristol; a performance by Halau Hula Wehena O Ke Ao under the direction of Kumu Maka'ala Palmore; and the rhythmic beating of Maui Taiko drummers.

If you feel the need to include a little learning along with your festivities, a property and art studio tour will be offered which will share some history about the 100-year-old estate.
