Conde Nast Traveler has recently announced the results of its 31st annual Readers’ Choice Awards with Hotel Wailea — the first and only Relais & Chateaux property in Hawaii — earning the highly coveted “No. 1 Resort in Hawaii” spot for the second year in a row.

Designed exclusively for couples, Hotel Wailea has achieved this prestigious distinction under the direction of Private Label Collection — a full service small luxury hotel management company that specializes in rebranding and transitions. The independently owned and operated, all-suite hotel offers an unprecedented level of intimacy, privacy and exclusivity in Hawaii alongside once-in-a-lifetime guest programming including intimate seven-course treehouse dining, vintage Porsche rides and cooking classes in the newly built, state-of-the-art test kitchen.

“We are thrilled to maintain top recognition in Hawaii from the discerning readers of Conde Nast Traveler,” notes

Jonathan McManus, owner of Hotel Wailea and principal of Private Label Collection.

“Since becoming an adults-only property in 2015, our team has put tremendous focus on offering our guests the best in cuisine, experience, atmosphere and service. We are honored to have fulfilled our commitment of providing guests with memorable lifetime experiences and look forward to continuing to raise the bar on laid-back luxury.”

Nearly 500,000 readers of Conde Nast Traveler wrote in a recording-breaking number of responses, rating travel experiences to provide a full snapshot of where and how we travel today.

The Conde Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards are the longest-running and most prestigious recognition of excellence in the travel industry and are widely known as “the best of the best of travel.” Under Editor in Chief Pilar Guzman, the Readers’ Choice Awards have become more selective and specific to the passions that inspire today’s travelers.

Of note is that Hotel Wailea is the only Relais & Chateaux property in the world that is for adults only.

“People have said, ‘you are crazy to open an adults-only hotel in Hawaii as it’s such a family destination,’ “ says GM and Managing Partner Markus Shale. “Yet when we opened, we received a huge flood of interest.”

Set across 15 expansive acres, Hotel Wailea boasts a chic beach house design in all 72 one-bedroom suites and a pool with private residential-style cabanas that offers views of three Hawaiian islands. The hotel’s continually evolving culinary program centers on fresh, seasonal fare with Hawaiian staples and Maui-grown ingredients.

The Restaurant at Hotel Wailea blends sophisticated and local Hawaiian produce sourced from the property’s own organic farm and orchard as well as from neighboring purveyors.

Tesla Model X house cars offer a convenient way for guests to explore the Wailea neighborhood or enjoy a day at the beach at the private club next to Four Seasons Resort Maui.

As Maui’s premier small luxury hotel, Hotel Wailea offers guests personalized and authentic island experiences tailored for couples, such as the treehouse dining, aerial yoga, kiteboarding and the new test kitchen that offers an elegant space for a memorable cooking lesson.

The November magazine issue of Conde Nast Traveler is on newsstands now.
