Workshops offered in central Maui

Maui Nui Botanical Gardens will host two fun workshops in June. Enjoy learning about the art of making kapa from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, June 8. Led by Lisa Schattenburg-Raymond and Lei Ishikawa, the workshop will instruct attendees in wauke cultivation, harvesting techniques, kapa equipment and tools, as well as the process of turning wauke fiber into cloth. Kanekoa performs benefit at The Shops at Wailea

Na Hoku Hanohano Award-winning Hawaiian reggae folk band, Kanekoa, performs a free concert from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at The Shops at Wailea to benefit Hospice Maui. Playing together for 20 years, Kanekoa seamlessly melds the sounds of traditional Hawaiian music with rock, folk, blues and reggae elements. Sixty percent of the special event parking fees to the selected charity.
