Barnes & Noble in the Lahaina Gateway Center will not be closing at the end of the year as announced last week, the store manager Cindy Mauricio said Wednesday.
"We are not foreseen to close. We are back in business," said Mauricio, who was overjoyed after just hearing the news from her district manager late Wednesday afternoon.
Mauricio did not know the lease terms but said she was stopping all processes involved in the closing.
"It won’t be happen. I’m very, very, blessed," she said.
News broke last week of the store’s closing over difficulties renewing its lease. Barnes & Noble said that sales on Maui have been good and that it didn’t plan to shut down and leave. But the company was unable to come to an agreement on the lease with the owner of the Lahaina Gateway Center.
The management company for Lahaina Gateway Center claimed it was the store that chose not to stay or to pursue a long-term lease.
