Paid conservation internship deadline extended

The application deadline has been extended for three positions for Na Hua Ho’ohuli i ka Pono’s Ho’oilo 2019-20 term. Na Hua Ho’ohuli i ka Pono is a paid service-learning program designed to help develop Maui’s next generation of conservation leaders. Host agencies for the available positions are the Maui Forest Bird Recovery Project and Maui Nui Botanical Gardens. There is also a conservation leader assistant position available where the member will participate with the previously mentioned host agencies along with The Nature Conservancy and state Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Forestry and Wildlife.

The Ho’oilo 2019-20 term will be 19 hours per week from Oct 14 to June 6, 2020. Participants will be paid a biweekly living allowance of $475, and are eligible to earn two AmeriCorps Education Awards totaling $2,579 to apply toward higher education costs or student loans. Applicants do not need to be currently enrolled in college to participate in the program.

Applicants will be selected through a competitive process that includes a formal application, criminal history check and interview. Members are responsible for their own transportation and housing accommodations. Completed applications and all required documents must be received by noon Aug. 5.
