Enrollment for Rotary youth leadership camp closes Friday

The Rotary clubs of Maui have announced open enrollment for the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards for high school sophomores, juniors and seniors of Maui County, including students from Molokai and Lanai, online at www.rylamaui.org. It will close on Friday.

The RYLA Camp is a three-day overnight retreat at Camp Keanae starting the afternoon of Feb. 7 and continuing through Feb. 9. Returning students will lead new students in participation, interaction, learning and practice of leadership skills. Students will be bused from University Hawaii Maui College and Lahaina. All students are sponsored by their local Rotary clubs on Maui and students from off-island will receive travel vouchers to cover their costs.

RYLA is an intensive leadership experience program organized and coordinated by Rotary clubs around the globe. Each year, thousands of people ages 13-30 participate in this program. They are sponsored by Rotary clubs to attend the event run by the students themselves, who develop skills as leaders while having fun and making connections.

While at the retreat students: Build communication and problem-solving skills; discover strategies for becoming a dynamic leader at school or community; learn from community leaders, inspirational speakers and peer mentors; unlock potential to turn motivation into action; have fun and form lasting friendships.
