Local businesses to coach students

Maui Business Brainstormers will sponsor a business workshop for Kamehameha Schools Maui Business & Leadership Academy students from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at the campus library.

The event is free for academy members and is part of National Entrepreneurship Week.

Program facilitator Lori Fisher is working with Kamehameha faculty to bring local business owners into the classroom to share their start-up and business experiences. Participating businesses include Ululani’s Shave Ice, Drone Services Hawai’i and Mahi Pono. Also volunteering are prominent members of the local community, such as representatives of the Maui Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce, who will provide feedback and coaching as part of the day’s program with students.

Local supporters include Fairmont Kea Lani Maui, Bayer Crop Science, Maui Wine and Maui Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce, as well as national support from Consortium for Entrepreneurship Education and NationalEntrepreneurshipWeek.org.

Sponsors and supporters are contributing their time as panelists and judges, bringing commercial and cultural insights into the classroom, as well as contributing recognition incentives for the participating students.

National Entrepreneurship Week is a congressionally-chartered week dedicated to showcasing entrepreneurship throughout the United States and engaging communities across the U.S. in activities to promote and support entrepreneurship in their communities. This year, National Entrepreneurship Week takes place Monday, Feb. 24 across the U.S.
