Danner is second-term chairwoman of the Sovereign Council of Hawaiian Homestead Associations that encompasses more than 40 organizations statewide. She will discuss the 1920 Hawaiian Homes Commission Act and explain how homestead associations may register with the U.S. Department of the Interior.

The event marks the 100th anniversary of the 1920 Hawaiian Homes Commission Act, whose 122-page document is at website dhhl.hawaii. gov/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/ Hawaiian-Homes-Commission-Act-1921-As-Ammended-Searchable.pdf. This federal law provides for the Native Hawaiian homestead program overseeing 204,000 acres. Native Hawaiians with 50 percent or more Hawaiian blood quantum live, farm, ranch and undertake mercantile activities on those lands.
