High school students complete cyber program
Maui County high school students participated in the fall cohort of the CompuGirls Hawaii inaugural virtual engagement program, which concluded in November.
The students wrote, produced and filmed public service announcement videos to raise awareness for the need of cybersecurity. The 15 PSAs were presented in November during a virtual ceremony.
Of the 49 girls representing Maui, Lanai, Oahu and Hawaii island, most attend a Hawaii public school and five are cadets in the Hawaii National Guard Youth Challenge Academy.
CompuGirls Hawaii introduces high school girls statewide, from populations traditionally underrepresented in STEM, to cybersecurity and IT as a field of study and viable career path. It is an affiliate of CompuGirls, a national program focused on increasing opportunities for girls of color in the fields of science and technology.
