Maui Economic Opportunity's October Employee of the Month, Monica Takamura, was likened to "bamboo plants bending and swaying in the breeze" for her ability to remain calm and collected amid a hurricane of events and problems.
She was announced as Employee of the Month during a virtual staff meeting on Nov. 30.
Takamura joined the nonprofit in 1998 as an accountant and was promoted to senior accountant in 2016 and accounting manager in January 2018.
For being named Employee of the Month, Takamura earned a $150 check and an extra vacation day.
