UH-MC program gets $6K for scholarships

Hawthorne CAT has donated $3,000 to the University of Hawaii Maui College Department of Automotive Technology to be used for scholarships, the college announced last month.

Officials with the company, which provides Caterpillar sales, services, rental and repair in Hawaii, visited the automotive shop on campus last month to present the check.

"Hawthorne CAT scholarships have helped prepare our students for the automotive industry by financially covering the most expensive parts of their education," UH-MC Automotive Technology Program Coordinator Lawrence Martinson said in a news release.

In addition to the $3,000 from the Hawthorne CAT offices, the Caterpillar Foundation's Dealer Excellence Fund donated a matching gift of $3,000.

"Six-thousand dollars goes a long way to help our students at UH-MC!" said Jocelyn Romero Demirbag, director of development for the UH Foundation, Maui Nui.
