Maui hotels and businesses and The Salvation Army teamed up to supply keiki in need with more than 2,700 school supplies and $5,000 in monetary donations.
Six members of the Maui Hotel and Lodging Association — Andaz Maui, Hyatt Residence Club, Wailea Beach Resort, Wailea Golf Club, The Westin Nanea and Trilogy Excursions — hosted their own in-house collection of supplies to fulfill The Salvation Army’s request as part of its “Adopt a Backpack Campaign.”
“In the past year, we’ve had many more families ask for support, especially for back-to-school items,” Salvation Army Capt. Steven Howard, the Maui County coordinator, said in a news release July 28. “We are grateful for the hospitality industry’s support and know there will be many more keiki starting school with solid foundations in August.”
